What is an EMG?

Electromyography (EMG/NCS) is a test that evaluates the health of the nerves and the muscles. During the EMG, the doctor will evaluate various muscles to determine if they are functioning properly. The doctor will place a small electrode inside the muscle to record the electrical activity.  Nerve Conduction Study (NCS) measures the time it takes for a small electric current to travel across a nerve.  With new technology and the special techniques developed by Dr. Bingham, this test can be performed with very little discomfort.  We routinely perform this test on adults and children.  This procedure takes about 30 minutes.
